President - Rob Bonesteel, CVA

Rob Bonesteel is the Volunteer Director for The Salvation Army Central Territory and is responsible for the overall volunteer effort of The Salvation Army across the 11 Midwest states. He has been a volunteer director since 1997 and has held a variety of volunteer administrator positions at all levels within The Salvation Army. Today, Rob is the president of the Association of Leaders in Volunteer Engagement, past president of the Association of Administrators of Metropolitan Chicago; and an adjunct professor at Triton College.

President Elect - Kathy Cahill, CPRP

Kathy Cahill has worked with volunteer staff for most of her 12+ year career with Lee County Parks and Recreation (on the Florida Gulfcoast), and she currently is the Volunteer Services Coordinator. Her responsibilities include coordinating more than 1,000 active volunteer staff and more than 40 volunteer staff supervisors. Additionally, some 20 community groups also are registered as Parks & Rec volunteers and fall under her supervision. Kathy has a passion for education and teaching which has afforded her the opportunity to present at several local, state and national conferences over the years. Kathy brings her leadership experience and infectious attitude to the boards and committees she serves on. Kathy is currently in the process of getting her CVA.

Treasurer - Joanna Johnson, CVA

Joanna Johnson graduated from Texas State University with a degree in Elementary Education. After teaching for several years, she began working for the City of Austin as an Administrative Executive and currently as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Austin Animal Center. In 2007 Joanna earned her CVA and has applied for re-certification this year. Joanna has served on the board from the beginning - first as the Co-Chair of the COVAA Steering Committee, then Initial President for AL!VE, Past President, and has served two years as Treasurer. She served on the local DOVIA Board from 2001-2006. Joanna also serves as a Disaster Services volunteer for the Central Texas Red Cross Chapter.

Secretary - Doug Blankinship

Douglas J. Blankinship, Volunteer and Partnership Coordinator for the Bureau of Land Management’s Eastern States Office recently returned from a decade long loan to the Office of the Secretary of Interior where he served as Deputy Director of the Take Pride in America program and Volunteer.gov Portal Manager. Additionally, Doug is a co-founder of the Federal Interagency Team on Volunteerism and the Conservation USA training program. Doug’s 25 year involvement in volunteerism earned him the Boy Scouts of America’s William T. Hornaday Gold Medal for his distinguished service to natural resource conservation.

Past President - Harriett Edwards, Ed.D.

Harriett Edwards, Ed.D. is an Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist in the Department of 4-H Youth Development and Family & Consumer Sciences at North Carolina State University, providing leadership for Continuing Volunteer Education in a statewide program that engages more than 25,000 youth and adult volunteers annually. Harriett’s first-of-its-kind dissertation research investigated critical aspects of effectively engaging episodic volunteers in community based youth programs.
Dr. Edwards has served on many boards including the 4-H military liaison for North Carolina. She has worked with the Department of Defense, the National Military Family Association and private funders to bring more than $1 Million to North Carolina in support of military children and their families.
Dr. Edwards has presented at numerous national and international conferences and teaches graduate level courses in volunteer management at both North Carolina State University and has also served as adjunct faculty at the University of North Carolina – Greensboro. Her work also includes the development of a “Basics in Volunteer Management” training to certify experienced volunteer administrators to teach “Basics in Volunteer Management” classes through North Carolina Community Colleges.
