AL!VE Newsletter: August 2022
Association of Leaders in Volunteer Engagement

President's Message

AL!VE Board President, Michelle Raymer, CVA

It's been close to five years since I joined the AL!VE Board! In that time AL!VE has experienced incredible growth in our membership and our programing. I’ve personally gained experience and grown in my skills effectively facilitating meetings, managing projects and teams, and running an organization. Even more beneficial have been the relationships I’ve developed with my amazing fellow Board Members and Gretchen!

AL!VE Board Members can serve two three-year terms. A lot can (and has) happened in the past six years, and things get busy with a full-time job, family, and other volunteer commitments. I was recently asked how I keep going and stay so committed to my AL!VE role. In reflecting, in part it’s because I’m passionate about the mission, and I find purpose in knowing I’m contributing to the advancement of the profession. Additionally, when life does happen (and illnesses, natural disasters, etc certainly have in the past few years) I’m supported by a team of people that can step up when I need to step back, and vice versa.

If you’ve been considering applying to the Board, I encourage you to attend our info webinar (register here) to learn more and get your questions answered. If now isn’t the right time for you, we have many other committees or projects you can get involved with. I’d love to have you join our team!

Now is Your Opportunity to Join the AL!VE Board of Directors!

We are looking for committed volunteer engagement professionals to help shape our sector and improve the professionalism of volunteer engagement. If you are interested in being part of a working board where you can share your skills and talents on outcome based committees please check out this opportunity. There is an informational webinar scheduled for next week on August 23 at 2 PM E.  Register here and we will record the session and place on the website. If you have questions connect with Kayla Paulson, President Elect to learn more. DEADLINE to apply is September 15, 2022. Learn more and apply here!

If you are not able to commit to a board level position yet, we encourage you to check out our committee and project roles. This is a great way to experience the organization and can be a pathway to a future board service when it is mutually beneficial.

Hybrid Conference: Registration Open For Host Sites and Individuals!

This event is produced
and sponsored in conjunction with Better Impact. Learn more, view an informational video, and register here!

Everyone is being expected to take advantage of data, no matter what their size, mission, or budget. Decision makers want organizations to use data to show their value beyond what the financials show. But it’s more than that.  It’s also knowing what data is important and telling the story behind the data that really matters. With limited resources, how do agencies partnering with volunteers choose an approach that combines the right mix of data and tools to provide insight relevant to your organization? And where is it going to come from?
This year's Volunteer Management Hybrid Conference will focus on equipping leaders of volunteers with skills to determine what data is useful and how to tell impactful stories using different tools and technologies.

Broadcast October 18 or 19,  host sites will be able to live stream our conference presenters to a live or remote audience, facilitated again this year by Faiza Venzant, CVA.
*Late Breaking News!*  Maura Fitzpatrick is unable to present, but we are pleased to announce that the incredible Erin Spink will present on the topic.
