President's Message

AL!VE Board President Michelle Raymer, CVA

Have you seen our list of Communities of Practice recently? What started with one rural COP in 2018 has grown to a dozen different groups! (Fun fact- starting the rural COP was one of my first projects with AL!VE) If you haven’t found one to participate in yet, I highly recommend it. It’s a great way to meet others within your niche in the volunteer engagement field. I prepared for the CVA exam on my own and would have loved it if a study group had been offered at that time. Luckily for you, registration for the fall CVA study group COP is open now! If there isn’t a COP for your line of work, let us know if you want to start one, or have other ideas of programming that can support you.
Michelle

P.S. Are you attending the Points of Light conference in Orlando? If so come find me and say hi! I love meeting AL!VE members from across the country. Additionally, be sure to join us for our happy hour on July 13th from 6-9pm at the Coronado Springs Resort Convention Center. We’ll be joined by our friends from Better Impact and NAVPLG for an opportunity to meet in person. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Impact Evaluation: Data that Matters &
Creating the Right Story

View our intro video here
*Registration is now OPEN!*

This event is produced and sponsored in conjunction with Better Impact.
www.betterimpact.tv/vmhc
Everyone is being expected to take advantage of data, no matter what their size, mission, or budget. Decision makers want organizations to use data to show their value beyond what the financials show. But it’s more than that.  It’s also knowing what data is important and telling the story behind the data that really matters.
With limited resources, how do agencies partnering with volunteers choose an approach that combines the right mix of data and tools to provide insight relevant to your organization? And where is it going to come from?
This year's Volunteer Management Hybrid Conference will focus on equipping leaders of volunteers with skills to determine what data is useful and how to tell impactful stories using different tools and technologies.

Broadcast October 18 or 19,  host sites will be able to live stream our conference presenters to a live or remote audience, facilitated again this year by Faiza Venzant, CVA.

Fee: $550 for  AL!VE Members | $600 for Non-Members

Request for Proposals: Compensation Evaluation Services

Coming Soon:
Job Leveling Document
for Volunteer Engagement Professionals

AL!VE is excited to announce we are seeking the services of a compensation consultant to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the job of the volunteer engagement professional, delivering a job leveling document that demonstrates the progressions within the job.  Consultant will develop, design, and produce a report that defines the skills, knowledge, and amount of responsibility attached to each level of the volunteer engagement professional role.

We hope to have this job leveling document for the field that can help our members advocate for job advancement by outlining responsibilities and qualifications for each job level, from entry-level to executive.

RFP's will be excepted now through July 6th, 2022.

More information about the RFP is posted on our website here.

For any questions, please contact Megan Vixie at info@volunteeralive.org

Volunteering with AL!VE

We Want YOU - Part TWO!
Thank you to AL!VE members Tim Suda, Jannessa Weightman, and Chris Woods who have stepped up to join the Local Associations, Finance, and Marketing committees.  Two new opportunities are available!  Time commitment usually entails one meeting a month, with 1-2 hours working independently on a project or with a team.  Volunteering with AL!VE looks great on a resume, is eligible for CVA recertification hours, and expands your skillset!

These Committees are seeking AL!VE members to join:
  • Marketing: Meets monthly with committee to draft messaging, marketing plans and projects as assigned by the board.  Independent work to maintain and update website, create graphics for Social Media, Outreach, Special Projects, etc.
  • HR & Policy: Meets monthly with responsibilities including reviewing AL!VE Policy and Procedures, and oversight and further development of our internal volunteer engagement strategy. A volunteer is sought to focus on enhancing our internal volunteer engagement processes. If you are interested in joining the HR & Policy Committee, please email Michelle Raymer for more information.
Visit our volunteer page  to learn more about other opportunities, apply and get started!

AL!VE Board Position Opening - Call to Members

AL!VE Board Member Andrea Hill has resigned from the AL!VE Board of Directors due to other commitments.  We thank her for her service and wish her well in future endeavors.  Per our bylaws, members can submit nominations by June 30, 2022:

'When a vacancy on the board exists mid-term, the secretary or their designee will notify the membership and make a call for nominations. Nominations must be submitted within two weeks of notifying the membership. The board member nominations will be selected and voted in by a majority of the board of directors. These vacancies will be filled only to the end of the vacated board members term. Any board member chosen this way is eligible to run in the normal election process.'

To learn more and apply, visit our board nomination page here.  For questions, contact Kayla Paulson, AL!VE President Elect and Board Development Committee Chair here.

Introducing AL!VE's Standards for Organizational Volunteer Engagement

The AL!VE Standards for Organizational Volunteer Engagement were revised and updated by volunteer engagement professionals (VEP) for volunteer engagement professionals. Based on extensive research and experience, these Standards have been shown to deliver value to both the organization and individual volunteers.

This new version and the accompanying Self-Evaluation Tool were developed to be adaptable, relevant, and scalable within organizations of every size, structure, and industry. The Standards incorporate current trends in volunteer engagement such as inclusion and diversity, transformational volunteerism, and context-based volunteer management models.

The Standards can be useful to VEPs at every level of experience. Those who are new to the field can use these them as a guide for developing their organization's volunteer engagement programs. Those who are experienced VEPs and whose organizations have more established volunteer programs can use these them as a way to assess the effectiveness of their organization's volunteer engagement. In all cases, these Standards can be used to make the case for increased investment in and integration of volunteer engagement.

The AL!VE Standards are a living document, so the Standards Task Force will be soliciting feedback over the next year on their usability and effectiveness so we can continuously update and improve them. We'll be developing training and support opportunities for interested users. Get the inside scoop by joining us for an introduction to these Standards at the next AL!VE Academy: Using Standards to Make Your Case: Introducing AL!VE's Standards for Organizational Volunteer Engagement, on June 24th.

So, please share your feedback on the AL!VE Standards and register for the next AL!VE Academy. We can't wait to get your feedback!
