Association of Leaders in Volunteer Engagement News
AL!VE Stands in Solidarity with Our Partners in National Service
The recent decision by the Administration and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to issue stop-work orders for AmeriCorps NCCC and FEMA Corps has sent shock waves throughout the nonprofit sector. These abrupt directives jeopardize critical programs, services, and the stability of countless organizations and communities across the country.
As leaders in volunteer engagement, we strongly believe that federal support for volunteerism and community service make our country and communities stronger, not weaker. We know firsthand the impact that National Service members have in building capacity, responding to disasters, and supporting underserved communities. The dismantling of these programs threatens not only the infrastructure of our volunteer service ecosystem but also the future of civic engagement itself.
AL!VE strongly supports the official statement from America’s Service Commissions, which highlights the urgency of this moment and our shared commitment to preserving and strengthening national service and volunteerism.
We encourage all of our members and partners to take immediate action. Voices for National Service offers tools to:
- easily contact your elected officials,
- share your stories, and
- advocate for the protection of AmeriCorps NCCC and FEMA Corps.
- Visit this action page to make your voice heard.
We are in a pivotal moment. AL!VE is committed to keeping you informed and mobilized as we work alongside national partners to advocate for the future of service and volunteerism. Together, we can push back against harmful decisions and ensure our communities continue to receive the support they need.
