AL!VE in the Media: Volunteers Are The Glue Holding Communities Together, And They Deserve Investment (Forbes; Aug 22, 2025)

AL!VE and Service Enterprise Recognized in Forbes for Elevating Volunteer Engagement Nationwide

August 27, 2025 – The Association of Leaders in Volunteer Engagement (AL!VE) is proud to be featured in a recent Forbes Nonprofit Council article, “Volunteers Are The Glue Holding Communities Together, And They Deserve Investment” by Jennifer Sirangelo, highlighting the essential role of volunteer infrastructure in building stronger, more connected communities.

The article underscores that volunteers comprise nearly a third of the nonprofit workforce, yet the systems and infrastructure to support them are often underfunded. It emphasizes the critical importance of volunteer action centers and programs that recruit, train, and manage volunteers effectively—ensuring nonprofits can meet growing community needs.

Among the solutions spotlighted is Service Enterprise, a premier accreditation program now administered by AL!VE in partnership with Points of Light. The program helps organizations strategically leverage volunteers to increase their capacity and impact. The program began in 2010 when Imagining Service partners CommonGood Careers, Deloitte, Taproot Foundation, the RGK Center for Philanthropy at the University of Texas and TCC Group collaborated around research and best practices for volunteer engagement.

AL!VE continues to champion the vital role of volunteer managers and the infrastructure that supports them, advocating for the same level of investment in volunteer systems as in technology, marketing, and other key organizational priorities.
